Comfort is for pansies

Why God wants' you to be uncomfortable.

As I write this I sit in my office contemplating who will be in my chair next, I wonder what will be of this youth group and if this kids will grow to passionately love Christ the way they have been taught. Nonetheless, the train is already moving, the "for sale by owner" sign is in the yard, my family has being informed and on Sunday we will be prayed for and sent out. This is what I call a radical change, this is what I call uncomfortable, this is the type of thing that most people avoid like the plague, this is what I was made for.

In this comfortable world that most westerners live in is hard for us to imagine that God does not wish to give you a comfortable life, in fact you are probably having a problem with that very statement right now. Now let me clarify, I am not saying that God wishes for you to suffer, I am not saying that God wishes for you to be poor, and I am not saying that God wishes for you to live in agony and misery, all of this is simply not true and contrary to what the Bible teaches. What I am saying is that God wishes for you to die to your self, see Him as the most important, have a heavenly perspective and do as He says, not as you wish.

Doing as He says, not as we wish is often where people miss it. Sure we are "good" people, and we try to not hurt anyone, we do our best to follow the commandments and at the end of the day we are all super grateful for God's amazing grace. But that's not really it, is it? I mean if all there was to living a good Christian life was not cursing, being a drunk and watching porn, then our nation would look very different. Our nation is in the decay its in , not only because of moral decay, but also because disobedient people. People that have heard the voice of God, but because of comfort have refused to act.

I have said this many times before while we were evangelizing the streets of Chattanooga, "I believe there is many missionaries out there, people that heard the voice and wanted to go, but because of mortgages and children they never went". This is a sad reality, and it echoes in my heart every time people question my wife's and I's sanity with statements such as "well you better do it before you have children", is this a joke? Are these people truly insinuating that I have a better chance of protecting and providing for my children in an American suburban neighborhood while they watch MTV, than my mighty God in whatever place he sent me to preach the gospel? are they serious?, sadly, they are. It is that fear of discomfort that has caused many people to go about their zombie life's, going to work, going to church, going home, and repeat next week. Never doing anything of real value, never taking a chance, never allowing themselves to be uncomfortable and touch a broken soul, never allowing themselves to say yes to God's, crazy and wonderful plan, never allowing themselves to realize that it is when we are uncomfortable that we truly live.

In the Bible God shows us this in a couple of scriptures, Luke 17:33 "Whoever seeks to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.", let go of your comfort, listen to His voice, and even if He asks you to move to Mcallen TX, sell your house that you bought 8 months ago, and leave your immediate family behind, Do it, because after all, Galatians 2:20 "My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." Let go of your comfortable life and begin to live a life worth telling around a bonfire, after all, is this, not comfort, that God designed you for.

God has an incredible, insane, uncomfortable plan for your existence. This might not involve the amazon, or some remote village in Afghanistan, this might simply involve you saying yes when he tells you to pray for the person next to you at walmart, will it be uncomfortable? more than you know, will it be worth it? you have no idea.
