Survivor HK-106320 Fixed Blade Knife Review
I am excited to review this blade simply because of how much it impressed me. This knife has exceeded every one of my expectations and has proven itself to be of great value. First the specs, this blade is 7 inches over all, the actual cutting edge came around 3 inches and since it is a tanto style edge you have great flexibility since this style of blade is known for being excellent for piercing and close combat, also for holding an edge very well.
The manufacturer is not very clear on the quality of the steel. However, due to the price, it is safe to assume that this is your standard hardened stainless steel. There is nothing wrong with that but it is nothing impressive either. The knife sports a unique print on its side. I say unique because I have never read this on a blade before. The side of the knife reads "USA custom design, hand forged in China". I am not too sure how I feel about this. On one hand it is saddening that yet another company has outsourced its work to China when this country has some of the highest quality blacksmiths and gunsmiths. Personally, I see no need to send more of our jobs abroad but then again it is an exciting thought to think that this blade was hand forged like a katana. This process is something that would have easily tripled the price of the knife if it was done here in the USA. This is a big deal since the price is one of my favorite parts of this knife. You can find it on Amazon.com for $6.86! That is an amazing value for this blade. If you are looking for an E.D.C. fix blade then this is a great choice for you. Because of how affordable it is you will not shy away from dealing the knife any necessary punishment and the good news is that this knife can take it. Making the statement "affordable does not mean cheap."
There's definitely some qualities that could have used an upgrade, the main one is the sheath. The sheath is made out of plastic and nylon, the stitching is weak at best and it actually ripped not too long after acquiring it. The hilt of the blade is wrapped in what the manufacturer calls "parachord" but in reality is simply nylon cordage, this however can be easily replaced after you purchase it. I would have preferred getting genuine useful paracord from the beginning.
On the flip side this knife does come with a fire rod, so maybe they had to lower the quality of those things in order to include this in the package, however I have recently lost mine. The little pocket in the sheath simply could not hold it securely, there was no clasp or tight wedge, simply a loose pocket.
Besides these negative qualities this knife is a great addition to your E.D.C. kit. It's sturdy, handsome and well balanced. It won't let you down when you need it and because of its affordability you won't cry if you loose it.
