4 knife companies that deserve your trust.

How to buy a knife and not regret it.

As a self titled "knife guy", I constantly get approached by men with the same burning question, "where can I buy a good knife?" My reply is often a short talk on what makes a valuable knife, along with some brands to trust, followed by a list of possible places to find such tool. Armed with this valuable information I have seen many men happily go on the hunt for a tool that will be useful and potentially life saving.

I don't believe I have to talk you in to buying and keeping a knife on your person at all permissible times. Its simple, to be a man is to always be prepared, and no tool is as masculine as a handsome, sturdy and functional blade. From opening a box to protecting your life, this tool is essential and so perfect in its design that besides bells and whistles it has remained unchanged for thousands of years.

The problem many men have when buying a knife is sorting trough all the cheap steel and unnecessarily over priced blades. To help you trough this process I will list some companies that I trust and make amazing tools at reasonable prices.

This company has been around for ever, a lot of their blades are american made and they are known for being innovators. From pocket knives to full on military grade breaching tools, these guys are used and trusted by law enforcement, emergency crews and military units all around the world. With this said you would think that they would be expensive. Well I am glad to say that all though you are not going to find a blade on their site for a dollar,  I guarantee you will not over pay for one of their excellent tools. If you want a knife company that caress for their costumers, accepts its mistakes and constantly improves, this is one to consider. I highly recommend their camping and survival line.

This Company has caught my attention recently, they have been making quality blades for a long time but it almost feel like their designs have been lacking some modernity. That is until now, Scharade has pumped out a new line of handsome rugged knives for 2014. they would not be my choice for a pocket knives, simply because I favor Gerber over them in the design department. But if you are looking for a solid fix blade, this company will not let you down. They will give you all the bells and whistles such as Kydex sheaths with out making you go in to debt to afford them. I heavily recommend any of their EDC fix blade knives.

I feel that this company has been underrated for a long time, but in all honesty , if you are looking for a dependable pocket or hunting knife these guys will meet your needs. My first serious pocket knife was a Buck Red Point, it only cost me 20 bucks, I lost it, and since it was not that expensive I bough another. This knife is still one of my favorites, has held its edge over the years and it gets complements every time it comes out of my pocket. With their different knife quality levels you should be easily be able to find a blade that suits your needs and budget, and you will be happy to know that even their most basic grade of knives is still excellent.

We covered companies that will satisfy you needs for camping, EDC, hunting and survival. But what about those random moments that you want a Kukri machete, or a Roman Gladious, or some other type of exotic and functional blade to add to your collection. For those moments of eccentric needs "Cold Steel" is the company for you. This company has taken the time to bring incredible blades out of history books, redesigning them with modern materials and insuring that they still retain their original, deadly and enduring efficiency. This company not only pumps out exotic blades but they also make them affordable by often times offering minimum packaging and other cost cutting corners. That is not to say that exotic blades is all they do, their EDC, survival and combat knives are still formidable tools.

Just to be clear I sadly don't receive any type of sponsorship from these companies. They have simply earned my trust over the years and I wish to pass on that trust and knowledge to you. There is of course more companies that produced high quality knives, the reason they did not make them in to my list is simply for the sake of giving you guys a launch pad to start of on instead of a full on immersion in to the deep and technical world of knives. I hope this list proves to be helpful and that you are soon holding a quality blade from one of these companies. thank you for reading and ill see you next week.
